Before & After

Everyone loves a before and after so we thought we would showcase some of the transformations we have done here at Switch!  There are a multitude of ways to have a big impact  – from adding colour; creating a focal point; changing the architectural detailing to flipping the room around.  Below we explore a some of these ideas!

ADDING COLOUR

First up was a hallway that was definitely tired and had an 80s look about it – swags and tails to complete the look!  It made the landings so dark and gloomy!  We injected colour and pattern with pale green walls and the staircase was painted in a darker hue to contrast nicely.  The finishing touch were the window treatments in the Cloud fabric from Rapture & Wright in coral & aqua blue.

Streamlining the window treatments made such a difference creating more space on the landings which ultimately let more light in.

HALLWAY STORAGE

Hallways have to work really hard and where we can we add storage.  In this busy family home, we ‘stole’ a slice of the playroom to enable some great storage for all the school bags and sports equipment.  Internal sensor lighting enables everything to be seen inside the cupboard so you aren’t rummaging in the dark!

The staircase was also painted out in white to create a much fresher interior with a lovely wool carpet to complete the space.

ARCHITECTUAL DETAILING

This formal sitting room was anything but when we first arrived!  Used more as a dumping ground than a TV room it had an oversized fireplace that took up so much room and completely swamped the room.  We streamlined this with a bespoke marble fireplace with a new wood burner.  Furnishings were given a injection of colour to create a warm and welcoming sitting room.  The deep buttoned upholstered footstool in real leather was a splurge but worth every penny!

BATHROOMS

This bathroom was a large space but had been badly designed with a large bath in the centre of the room making it feel small and awkward.  There was also an oversized cupboard that took up too much room – by making this smaller – it’s always good to get some storage if possible – we were able to install a large double vanity next to the window.  The bath went on the opposite wall along with a walk in shower and the WC.

We installed a patterned floor with contrasting Colefax & Fowler window treatments in a contemporary rose pattern.  Wall lights either side of the large mirror finished the space perfectly.  These simple changes made the bathroom feel so much bigger and more streamlined

FLIPPING THE ROOM

In this family TV room the sofa seemed to be in the middle of the room so we completely flipped the room around creating a new media unit on the opposite wall to where the TV originally was.  A large L shaped sofa was then placed in the corner to allow maximum lounging for family movies.

This made the room feel much larger and far more efficient.  A striking piece of artwork now hangs above the sofa and is the main focal point as you enter the room rather than the TV that was originally there.  The fitted cabinetry also had the added benefit of covering some boxed in pipework that was running up the wall.  You would never know it was there now!   Smart streamlined window treatments also give more space around the windows and let more light into the room as a whole.

WINDOW TREATMENTS

Window treatments really do make all the difference!  Not only do they keep the heat in, they will really finish and soften a space –      especially if teamed with other soft furnishings such as this window seat with a contrast border along with cushions for comfort!
